Nissan Motor Company chief executive Carlos Ghosn recently announced that the automaker plans to offer its first fuel cell vehicle (FCV) next year, advancing its original plans to launch an FCV in 2005. The automaker is currently working with partner Renault SA on fuel cell technology.
Ghosn said the company has decided to accelerate the introduction of FCVs because its "development projects have made good progress." Earlier this year, Nissan launched an effort to test a fuel cell-powered sport-utility vehicle on U.S. roads.
Rival Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corporation and Honda Motor Company have also announced plans to accelerate their introductions of FCVs, with both companies expecting to market FCVs by the end of the year.
