UQM Receives DOE Grant for Propulsion System.(UQM Technologies Inc. receives Small Business Innovative Research grant from the Department of Energy)(Brief Article)

Golden, CO-based UQM Technologies, Inc. recently announced that the Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded the company a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program grant for the development of a low-cost, fully integrated 30-kilowatt electric propulsion system.

During the initial nine-month phase of the award, UQM said it will complete initial system design and analysis, as well as a demonstration of software used in rotor position sensing.

"This program capitalizes on concepts developed under other DOE-funded programs by integrating a sine wave motor controller into the housing of our highly efficient permanent magnet motors, resulting in a propulsion system that outperforms current designs with respect to cost, weight, size and power...
