Popular Mechanics Completes 'Hybrid vs. Gas' Road Test.(Brief Article)

Automobile magazine Popular Mechanics recently reported the results of its 3,065-mile "hybrid versus gas" cross-country road test, which compared the fuel efficiency of a Honda Civic Hybrid to that of its gasoline-powered counterpart, a Civic EX.

Popular Mechanics reported that the $18,750 Civic EX averaged 33.8 miles per gallon (mpg) during the entire four-day trip, which spanned from New York, NY to Los Angeles, CA, while the $20,010 Civic Hybrid averaged 42 mpg -- a 24 percent fuel economy gain.

In addition, the publication said it paid $168 to fuel the Civic EX, compared to $135 spent on fueling the Civic Hybrid, noting that the $33 in savings was comparable to one penny per mile.
