Segway Voluntarily Recalls HT in Cooperation With CPSC.(Consumer Product Safety Commission )(Brief Article)

Manchester, NH-based Segway, LLC, the manufacturer of the electric-powered, two-wheel Human Transporter (HT), recently joined with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to announce the recall of all of the approximately 6,000 HTs sold directly by Segway and through certain dealers and resellers from March 2002 through September 2003.
According to CPSC spokesman Ken Giles, Segway informed the agency that "under certain operating conditions, particularly when the batteries are near the end of charge, some...HTs may not deliver enough power, allowing the rider to fall." Segway noted that such problems could potentially happen when an HT rider "speeds up abruptly, encounters an obstacle or continues to ride after receiving a low-battery alert."...
