Mexican Firms In Contest For Nicaraguan Mobile Carrier.

MEXICO CITY, Mar 22, 2001

Two Mexican companies, subsidiaries of Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) and TV Azteca, are the only bidders for Nicaragua's state-owned mobile telephone carrier, according to a report in Mexican financial daily El Economista. Telmex subsidiary Radio Movil Dipsa and TV Azteca's Azteca Holdings have submitted offers for the company, and the winning bid will be named March 27. The bids detail projected investment, a license-payment offer and the companies' experience in mobile telecommunications, Nicaraguan Telecommunications Institute (Telcor) chief David Robleto said.
