Mexico Lent Fish, Seafood Sales Volume Up 2.8 Percent.
Internet Securities, April, 2001
MEXICO CITY, Apr 23, 2001
Fish and seafood sales volume during the week before Easter in Mexico this year was up 2.8 percent from a year earlier, National Fish and Seafood Distributors President Roberto Gutierrez Ambriz said. Sales volume for the week was 16,250 metric tones, as against 15,800 metric tons last year, Gutierrez said. He said the rise in sales mainly was due to heavy retail price discounting for more than 60 species of fish and seafood, including Red Snapper and shrimp. "We think that consumption (of fish and seafood) in general is rising," Gutierrez said.
