Mexican Toll Highways Underused Because Of High Prices.

Mexico's car travelers primarily rely on the nation's network of free federal highways, because the prices on toll highways are unaffordable, said National Chamber of Cargo Transport President Manuel Gomez. The nation's toll highways are underused by 70 percent, and need a scheme to make their use more attractive, said Gomez. Between 12 percent and 15 percent less gasoline is used when traveling on toll highways, which leads to significant savings for consumers, but the price of the tolls is very high, he told Mexico City daily Reforma.
