Mexican Blue Chips Likely To Do Well In Recession.

Even though Mexico's economic slowdown is expected to continue into 2002, the largest companies on the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) are expected to maintain solid profits and operating revenues, reported Mexico City daily Reforma. The companies will continue with strong results because they are mostly old economy companies, and are less volatile than techs, said Merrill Lynch. In the majority of cases, their financial situations are relatively healthy, partly because many of them are in industries dominated by oligopolies, allowing them to increase market share during economic crises, said the investment bank.
