Negotiations Of World Cup TV Rights To Be Tough.

Now that Mexico has won a place for itself in the approaching World Cup, negotiations will begin between Direct TV and Mexico's two largest television networks, Televisa (BMV:TLEVISA, NYSE:TV) and TV Azteca (BMV:TVAZTCA, NYSE:TZA). Direct TV, led by Edward C. Balcerzak, has the rights to broadcast the games in Mexico, which cost the company 400 million dollars. However, TV Azteca and Televisa are unlikely to be willing to pay anything close to that much for the rights to broadcast the games on their networks. During the last World Cup, in France, both networks took in a total of only 210 million dollars in advertising revenues.
