TV Azteca, Televisa, DirecTV Reach Deal For World Cup.

MEXICO CITY, Jan 25, 2002

Televisa (BMV:TLEVISA, NYSE:TV) and TV Azteca (BMV:TVAZTCA, NYSE:TZA) reached an agreement with DirecTV for the transmission of the 2002 World Cup of Soccer on open-air television, and the deal should be signed within 15 days, reported Mexico City daily Reforma business columnist Dario Celis Estrada. The companies agreed to a package of 18 games, and although the exact price hasn't been defined, it will be somewhere between 17 million and 23 million dollars, said Celis. Telvisa and TV Azteca will split the cost of the broadcast rights, and will each assume their own production costs. Both networks will broadcast the same games, and if they decide to produce the games together, the cost will be close to 8 million dollars each, he said....
