Ericsson and Telefonica sign contract for GSM network.

MEXICO CITY, May 29, 2003 (Notimex/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- The Swedish firm Ericsson signed a deal with Telef?nica M?viles to build the GSM 1900 network, which will permit the Spanish mobile telecommunications company to offer this service in the principal Mexican cities. Under the agreement, Ericsson will build the central network and at least half of the GSM access network. GSM, which stands for Global Systems for Mobile Communications, refers to the newest of three technologies that permit cellular communication.The Mexican GSM network will have national reach and will initially be available only in the Federal District of Mexico City and other large cities such as Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana.
