VW and union still debating conflict over redundancies.

MEXICO CITY, Jul 9, 2003 (El Economista/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- The employees of Volkswagen (VW) are waiting for the company to make a decision on the recently announced redundancies. Although executives of the German carmaker said they would look at the alternative proposals made by the union, they have still not ruled out dismissals to cut costs.Jose Luis Rodriguez Salazar, secretary general of the VW union, reported that in the first meeting between the union representatives and company officials, the latter agreed to seek a solution to the conflict although they said production stoppages would not be feasible. As a result, Rodriguez Salazar said they would have to negotiate the reduction of the number of days worked and salaries...
