Mexico's sovereign risk closes Friday at record low; 203 basis points.

MEXICO CITY, Sep 22, 2003 (Notimex/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- Mexico's sovereign risk closed last week at a record low of 203 basis points, reported the Treasury Secretariat. In the report for the week of Sept. 15-21, the Treasury states that the country-risk, measured through the JP Morgan Emerging Market Bond Index (EMBI) reached this low figure last Friday.

The sovereign risk is the difference between the prices of sovereign debt instruments issued by the country and similar instruments issued by the U.S. Treasury Department, which are considered to be free from credit risk. The variations in the index reflect the changes in prices on the international markets, and they do not correspond to any unilateral rating on the country...
