Bank News, April, 2005 by Anonymous
Paul Sarbanes, D-Md., ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, has announced that he will not seek reelection in 2006. Sarbanes, 72, was elected to the Senate in 1976.
Commenting on the announcement, American Bankers Association Executive Vice President Edward L. Yingling said, "Sen. Sarbanes has been a thoughtful, intelligent statesman who has served his constituents well for nearly 30 years. He has always been very knowledgeable about the issues, and when advocating a position before him, you've always needed to be sure you could justify it based on its impact on consumers. We look forward to working with him in the months ahead and wish him the best in his retirement."
