According to Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel Cell Program manager JoAnn Milliken, (Department of Energy, EE-32, Rm. 5G-023, Bldg. FORS, M.S. 6A-116, Washington, DC; Tel: 202/586-9811, Fax: 202/586-9811; Email: JoAnn.Milliken@hq.doe.gov), PEM fuel cell engines are meeting emission targets for 2004, but cost remains a hurdle. The DOE fuel cell program 2004 objective is to develop and validate fuel-flexible, fuel cell power system technologies that are cost-competitive with internal combustion engines and equivalent in performance, range, safety, and reliability.
