Onboard Gas Processor Debuts.(General Motors)(Brief Article)(Product Announcement)

General Motors (3044 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI 48202; Tel: 313/556-5000) has unveiled its first gasoline fuel processor for fuel cell propulsion, packaged in a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, that reforms "clean" gasoline onboard, extracting a stream of hydrogen to send to the fuel cell stack.

"When combined with our fuel cell stack, the technology has the potential to obtain 40% overall energy efficiency, approximately 50% better than a conventional internal combustion engine," says GM VP of research, development, and planning Larry Burns.
