Fuel Cell Technology News, March, 2002

Air Force Research Laboratory Materials and Manufacturing Directorate (ML, 1864 4th St., Bldg. 15, Room 225, WPAFB, OH 45433-7131; Email: afrl.pa.dl.all@wpafb.af.mil) researchers are developing a deployable logistics fuel processor that will lead to the development of a compact reliable fuel cell power system to serve as an alternative to mobile electric power (MEP) systems.

According to ML Air Expeditionary Forces Technologies Division Engineer Aly Shaaban, the processor and fuel cell will reduce airlift requirements by 16%. The fuel cell system will offer lower emissions, infrared signatures and noise levels. It will reduce fuel use by 50% compared to traditional generators as well as be easier to deploy.

According to Shaaban, an "effective approach...
