Matsushita Electric Works (1048, Kadoma, Osaka, 571-8686 Japan; Tel: 81-6-6908-1131) has developed a highly efficient fuel processor with a high hydrogen conversion rate, which has reduced thermal loss by adopting a heat-transfer enhancing material that has a high thermal conductivity and which has reduced the amount of waste heat carried by the combustion gas and processed gas.

The fuel processor consists of a reformer for producing hydrogen from hydrocarbon fuels such as city gas or LP gas, a shift converter, and a CO selective oxidizer for reducing the carbon monoxide content of the hydrogen-rich reformed gas and a burner for heating the reformer.
