GOVERNMENT: DOE Pledges Millions More.(Department of Energy offers grants for automotive and stationary fuel cell research)

The DOE (1000 Independence Ave., SW, Washington, DC 20585; Tom Welch; Tel: 202/586-5806) is offering $70 million in grants to aid the development of stationary and automotive fuel cell technology. David Garman, the department's assistant secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, announced the solicitation while addressing the "Energizing America's Cities" conference in Chicago. The solicitation represents a first step in an integrated procurement strategy in the newly formed Hydrogen, Fuel Cell, and Infrastructure Technologies Program.

The solicitation will be available on DOE's "Industry Interactive Procurement System" (IIPS) webpage located at www.cartech.doe.gov/research/fuelcells/index.html
