Acumentrics Corp., (20 Southwest Park, Westwood, MA 02090-1548; Tel: 781 461-8251; www.acumentrics.com) has shipped a 5 kW tubular SOFC to Sumitomo in Japan. It is the 18th unit that Acumentrics has shipped for field trials. The SOFC, the second fuel cell Acumentrics has shipped to Japan, will be sited at the Yawata Laboratories of Nippon Steel Corporation. Sumitomo and Acumentrics formed Acumentrics Japan Corporation in 2004. Subsequent to the formation of the company, the New Energy and Industrial Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan awarded a grant to the new company as part of a multiyear $10 million grant being divided among four companies.
