TRANSPORTATION: DOE Cost Shares Two FC Fleets.(United States. Department of Energy, fuel cell)(Brief Article)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has signed cost-sharing deals with GM and Daimler Chrysler (Dr. Klaus Bonhoff, Product Manager and Market Development, HPC X001, Sindelfingen D-71059, Germany; Tel: 49 7031 904 0789; www.daimlerchrysler.com) to field new fleets of fuel cell vehicles in the U.S.
GM will invest $44 million to develop a fleet of 40 fuel cell vehicles for operation in California, Michigan, New York and Washington, D.C. As part of the deal, Shell Hydrogen will construct five hydrogen refueling stations in those states. The DOE contribution to the effort will be a matching $44 million.
DaimlerChrysler will up the ante significantly as it invests $70 million in a five-year project that will extend its existing fleet of 100 fuel cell...
