PROJECT OVERVIEW: The Turkish government is currently gearing-up to expand its energy generating capacity by some 13,000 Mw. In so doing, a construction contract was recently awarded to an international consortium for the construction of a new power plant. The partners in the planned undertaking include U.S.-based GE POWER SYSTEMS, a subsidiary of GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. (GE), the local ATAM ELEKTRIK and TECHNIP of Italy.

Construction plans under consideration call for building a power station with an installed generating capacity of 206 Mw. The gas-fired facility, to be sited in the city of Alapli in the province of Zonguldak, is expected to cost about $194,000,000 to complete.
