PROJECT OVERVIEW

MOPANI COPPER MINES acquired some copper producing assets in April 2000 as a result of the dismantling and privatization of the local state-owned ZAMBIAN CONSOLIDATED COPPER MINES (ZCCM). However, the acquired operations were in a loss-making position at the time. The Nkana and Mufulira mines, for that matter, had almost come to a complete halt because of the lack of spare parts and consumables.

As a result, MOPANI has now decided to invest $250,000,000 into its local activities in order to increase production output as well as purchase new equipment.
