Newsletter on Newsletters, The, June, 2003
Becoming Yourself grew out of a Girls Leadership workshop that 17-year-old editor Emily O'Neill attended in 2001 at Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt's home in Hyde Park, N.Y.
"Becoming Yourself is an international newsletter promoting the life and legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, covering issues such as diversity, education, leadership, self-esteem, and interests that encourage and support middle school girls," O'Neill said.
Prudential Financial recognized O'Neill's volunteer efforts and her newsletter in its Spirit of the Community Awards Program this year. Harold Banks of Prudential Financial said, "We select students that have shown a uniqueness in their efforts of involvement."
