Doreen Bierlya moves from Element K Journals publisher to UCG's first chief marketing officer.

Like Dan Oswald, described in our last issue, Doreen Bierlya has risen fast and high in the few years she has worked in the newsletter and niche-marketing industry.

During six years at M. Lee Smith Publishers (coincidentally now owned by Oswald), she launched 34 new legal publications, played a key role in acquisitions, launched a telemarketing department, and eventually as president led strategic planning and business development for the Tennessee-based legal publisher.

Doreen Bierlya (whose surname she not-so-demurely says rhymes with "gorilla") also has held senior-level positions in health-care and education.
