CLAREMONT, Calif., Jan. 31 (AScribe Newswire) -- Five days before Americans gather to watch the Super Bowl, Pomona College will host a lecture on "Sports, Men & Masculinity: A Super Bowl of Violence" by Michael Messner, the author of Taking the Field: Men, Women and Sports. Messner will discuss how the sports media provides boys and men with messages about masculinity. The Feb. 1 lecture will begin at 11 a.m. and be held in Pomona's Hahn Building (Room101), 420 N. Harvard Ave., Claremont. It is the first of a five-part lecture series on "Playing the Game: Social Forces in Sports," sponsored by the Pomona College departments of Sociology and Physical Education/Athletics.
