BINGAMAN CRITICIZES CURRENT ENERGY POLICY, TOUTS 13-POINT PLAN

Washington, D.C.-The George W. Bush administration needs to do more to decrease the U.S.' reliance on foreign oil and specifically should become more engaged with OPEC to help reduce the ever-rising cost of gasoline, the ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee said last week.

On Wednesday, OPEC announced it would be slashing crude production by another 1 million b/d, effective April 1. That decision "was a significant setback" to U.S. consumers, said Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), speaking at a press briefing hosted by Energy Daily. "I think clearly the OPEC countries are making a decision to do what they can to keep the price of oil historically higher than it has been," he said, urging a re-evaluation of what the U.S.' energy policy should...
