ATTORNEYS GENERAL ASK SENATE TO OPPOSE MTBE LIMITED LIABILITY

Twelve U.S. state attorneys general (AG) recently wrote to all 100 members of the U.S. Senate, asking them to oppose any provision in energy legislation granting limited liability protection to MTBE producers.

"Granting MTBE manufacturers immunity from liability will impede efforts to clean up contamination caused by MTBE," the AGs from New York, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin wrote in May 27 letters to senators.
