BP Favors 2050 Target for Cutting CO2 to 2006 Levels, Sees 'Advanced' Biofuels, CO2 Storage Among Options

Oil major BP supports a world-wide effort to cut carbon dioxide global warming emissions by relying more upon renewables, greater efficiency, carbon capture & storage (CCS) and technology evolution, according to a top company official.

"Our current view is that the goal for the 2050s should be to bring total global [warming] emissions back to today's level or lower - in other words we have to cope with the projected growth in global demand while bringing emission levels back to and then below current levels," BP's Chris Wilks, VP-future fuels, told the Hart World Refining & Fuels Conference.

"This is consistent with the emerging consensus that policy should be targeted at stabilizing global average temperature rise to around 2 degrees Celsius," Wilks said,...
