IBM, the global computer company, is to launch two new set-top-box processors, designed for use in a range of digital television (DTV) products including integrated digital television sets, personal video recorders (PVR) and satellite, cable and digital terrestrial receivers.

It is understood both of IBM's new controller products are integrated chips using IBM CMOS 0.15 micron process technology. The new STB chips are part of the fourth generation of IBM products for digital STB applications.

The STBx25xx and STBx5xxx products are understood to support the NDS conditional access system, which enables pay-TV operators to protect multimedia content...
