The US Congress is understood to be looking at a proposal put forward by the entertainment industry designed to afford copyright holders the power to shut-down PCs performing illegal file-sharing, reports CNet News.com.

In a move to address the growing proliferation of digital piracy the proposal seen by the tech news wire is considered the boldest move yet by the industry to curtail the activities of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks such as KaZaA.

If ratified, it is understood that the draft bill would ultimately enable copyright holders to hack into users PCs and subsequently disable the operating systems.
