Turnaround tips for Novell. (Company Operations)(Editorial)

Soft-Letter, March, 1997

We've never met Eric Schmidt, Novell's newly-appointed top gun, so we don't have any feeling for how he plans to pull the company out of its current Apple-like death spiral. But we've watched Novell flounder around for most of the past ten years, and we suspect Dr. Schmidt needs all the help he can get. (And, in turn, the software industry probably needs Novell, if only to keep Microsoft from taking over the network and server market by default.)

So we've decided to invite our readers--most of whom run software companies themselves--for tips to help Dr. Schmidt turn around his new company. We'll post these ideas on our Web site (jtarter@softletter.com), or by regular mail (17 Main St., Watertown, Mass. 02172).
