September 11th Fund closes.(Brief article)

Another September 11th-related charity planned to stop operations at the end of 2004.

The September 11th Fund, a creation of The New York Community Trust and United Way of New York City, to make grants and meet needs of victims, families and communities affected by the terrorist attacks, collected some $534 million, according to a press release. The Fund made 559 grants totaling $528 million, according to the organization.

It was scheduled to close Dec. 31, 2004. according to the organization's final report.

The fund's program records and grant files will be archived at the New York Public Library and available to researchers in 2021, according to the final report. No personal client information will be preserved, according to the statement.
