Intel Investment Arm to Buy Stake in Wi-Fi Connections Provider

Intel Corp's investment arm is planning to purchase a stake in Japan Communications Inc., a Tokyo provider of wireless connections to the Internet and other data networks for companies, a person familiar with the deal said.

The investment will make Intel the fourth-largest shareholder in closely held Japan Communications, and highlights the giant chip-maker's drive to find new ways for mobile computers to access the Internet.

It isn't clear how much Intel will invest in the deal. An official from Intel Capital declined to comment.
