Agilent acquires Wavics

Telecommunications Mergers & Acquisitions, February, 2005 by Anonymous

Wavics, the component manufacturer based in South Korea, has been acquired by Agilent Technologies. The acquisition will benefit Agilent, as it will strengthen the company's position in the world market for power amplifiers and front-end modules. Wavics manufactures power amplifier modules that are sold to the handset manufacturers worldwide.

Agilent Korea, the subsidiary of the company, stated that the technology patented by Wavics would enable the manufacture of smaller handsets that are equipped with more features and offer an extended talk time. The patented power amplifier technology called CoolPAM reduces the consumption of battery power considerably and allows CDMA and W-CDMA handsets to run cooler.
