Telecom NZ visits BT Plc as it is advised to split up its unit

The authorities of Telecom Corp., the largest telecom company in New Zealand, visited UK's BT Group Plc to reassess the segregation its wholesale and retail units.

Mark Ritcliffe, head of the networks, and Bruce Parkes, government relations manager for Telecom, visited UK's biggest phone firm last month. The company is reviewing its strategy after the government ordered it to provide rivals access to its fixedline network to help competition. The government also warned the company that it could forcibly separate its units.

BT also bowed to government pressure in September and agreed to split its business units in two. The London-based company then created Openreach, and the latter sold rival access to its networks on exactly the same terms as BT's own unit. Communication...
