Vodafone to formalize HEL deal only after all 'ambiguities' are cleared

Vodafone Plc said it would complete the Hutchison Essar (HEL) deal only when the ambiguities regarding the telco's shareholding setup are cleared. They categorically said that minority shareholders Asim Ghosh and Analjit Singh would need to be in complete control of their equity holdings before Vodafone finalizes the $11.1-billion buyout.

Apparently, Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin has held talks with top management of Hutchison Telecommunications International (HTIL), the Ruias, and also Mr. Singh and Mr. Ghosh. In February, the UK-based Vodafone had purchased HTIL's 67 percent stake in HEL for $11.1 billion. Hutch is presently in the process of consolidating the ownership of Mr. Ghosh and Mr. Singh's 12.26 percent stake. HTIL had given bank guarantee of around $110.4 million to Mr....
