Fujitsu unveils palm vein pattern recognition technology. (Electronics).

Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd has developed a biometric authentication technology that can verify a person's identity by recognizing the pattern of blood veins in his or her palm.

The company also developed a computer mouse incorporating this authentication technology, which will be applied for safeguarding important information through log-in verification for access to sales, technical or personal data.

The authentication process works thus:

* the palm is first illuminated by an infrared light;

* the vein just beneath the skin of the palm then emits a black reflection, providing a picture of the veins in the palm, from which a pattern is extracted;
