Breaking down biogas. (Environment and Recycling).

New Materials Japan, October, 2002

Shimadzu Corporation and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation have started joint trials of a carbon dioxide immobilisation technology, which converts carbon dioxide (immobilize) into carbon and water by reacting it with methane gas in the presence of a catalyst.

The C[O.sub.2] immobilization technology is aiming to develop an emission-reduction of C[O.sub.2], which is a dominant cause of the greenhouse effect, by effectively reducing organic wastes to its raw materials. In addition, a technology for the extraction of nanofibres with a diameter less than 100 nanometers in will be developed, with the extracted nanofibres used in a variety of industrial processes.

The process, if successful will reduce the amount of biogas (carbon dioxide and methane) produced...
