Mitsubishi Chemical to sell white light-emitting diodes fluorescent material.(Optoelectronics)

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp is to start selling fluorescent materials in April that will lead to the development of better white light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

Conventional white LEDs use fluorescent materials to convert blue light emitted from blue LEDs into yellow light, then mix the yellow with the blue to produce light that is close to white but slightly less red. Mitsubishi Chemical's fluorescent materials enable white LEDs to produce natural looking white light because they convert blue light into red and green, making three primary colours available to white LEDs.

The company has also developed a production method that reduces defects found in gallium nitride substrates.
