Toshiba recreates 'sunlight' with white light-emitting diode material.(Optoelectronics)
New Materials Japan, April, 2005
Toshiba Corp has developed a fluorescent substance which can be used in the production of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which produces a white light of near-sunlight quality when it is operated in combination with blue LEDs, and which is almost twice as bright as existing white LEDs
Conventional white LEDs are made using a fluorescent material which converts blue to yellow, resulting in an artificial white light that does not contain green or orange. As a result, red and green objects appear dark in this light, and eyes tire easily when exposed to it.
