A&G Information Services 12-10-2000 ITALIAN STATE GAS COMPANY ENI IS GOING TO PURCHASE SHARES IN THE RUSSIAN GAS MONOPOLIST, GAZPROM. ST.PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. The Italian company will do this on condition that the joint Russian- Italian development of the North Astrakhan hydrocarbon deposit is a success.
For ENI this project is very important: the concern plans to transport the gas from the North Astrakhan region to Turkey with the help of the Russian pipeline Blue Torrent. The leadership of Gazprom has many times announced its intention to increase the participation of foreign shareholders in the company from 5.5% to 20%.
