A&G Information Services 02-26-2001 GAZPROM AND POLISH NEGOTIATORS HAVE RECONCILED THEIR DIFFERENCES ON THE ISSUE OF CONSTRUCTION OF A GAS PIPE-LINE FROM POLAND TO SLOVAKIA AROUND UKRAINE. ST.PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. Russia justifies the building of a new pipe-line by the necessity to diversify the supply routes to Europe, which makes its more safe, and by its desire to avoid illegal taking of gas on the territory of Ukraine.

Ukraine considers that this project is economically unprofitable, has a political character and persuades to invest not in the construction of new pipe-lines, but in the reconstruction and widening of export major pipe- lines going through its territory.
