WASHINGTON, DC -- The US Department of Energy (DOE) has released High-Performance Commercial Buildings: A Technology Road map -- a guide intended to help chart the future course of high-performance commercial buildings. The document proposes a 20-year plan of integrating research, development and deployment for the next generation of commercial buildings in the US, and identifies strategies to address such challenging questions as "Will our current approach to commercial building design fit the changing nature of US businesses and their workforces?" and "How can we enjoy the benefits of flexible, functional workplaces while also better protecting the natural environment?"
Identified within the Roadmap is its developers' vision for the year 2020:
