Residents participate in Photovoltaic power 'Lottery'. (News).(Long Island)(Brief Article)

Environmental Design & Construction, July, 2002

LONG ISLAND, NY -- New York Gov. George Pataki recently selected 50 residents as winners in the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) 2002 Photovoltaic System Lottery. Fifty homeowners will receive solar-electric power systems supplied by Schott Applied Power Corp. (SAPC).

Residents will be using a turnkey solar system that includes four SAPC-165W PV panels, a I kW inverter and other system components. The system is designed to capture energy from the sun to power buildings, homes and other applications. When rays from the sun hit one of the SAPC-165 solar modules, energy is created.

This is the second "power lottery" LIPA has held. New York state also offers tax and financing incentives for the use of solar energy.
