PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local AES GENER SA, a subsidiary of US-based AES CORP., recently submitted its power plant development plans to Chile's environmental authority. The planned undertaking would reportedly involve building a power plant with an installed generating capacity of 740 Mw.

If approved, GENER will reportedly build the Totihue thermoelectric plant in 2 phases. The natural gas-fired power station was designed in order to meet anti-emissions norms. The facility, so to be sited some 100 kms south of Santiago, is expected to cost about $345,000,000 to complete.

As things currently stand, construction work is tentatively scheduled to begin in September 2005 with the second stage to commence within the coming 5 years.
