Members Encouraged to Respond to Government's Economic Census

More than 4 million businesses received the U.S. Commerce Department's 2007 Economic Census last month. The Commerce Department administers the census every 5 years to develop a portrait of American business, on both national and local levels.

Responses to the questionnaire are required by law and must be returned by Feb. 12 (the information is kept confidential). Forms also may be completed online. Businesses are asked to report such information as employment, payroll and the value of goods and services sold. Timely and accurate data are vital to the effort.

A special Web site has been developed to assist those responding (business.census.gov). There, CPAs can find information about the census and statistics they can use to assess and grow their business operations. The...
