Qtel to invest 800 million riyals in wireless network

Qtel will spend 800 million riyals on its wireless network to attract more customers, a company report said.

In the next two years, Qatar Telecommunication Company, Qtel, aims to achieve 100 percent penetration rate in the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) segment.

Mobile penetration in Qatar on December 31 was 65 percent, with 490,000 subscribers in a population of about 750,000.

The company aims to increase the number of customers, which grew 40 percent last year over 2003.
