Interactive alerts to tackle power shortages.(energy program introduced by California Energy Commission)(Brief Article)

Information Systems Auditor, June, 2001

With California expected to experience severe power problems again this year, the California Energy Commission has established an initiative called Power-Pact to help reduce the load at major peak times.

A contract for the programme has been awarded to a team of three energy-based companies--the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Global Energy Partners LLC and Infotility Inc, the originator of the Power-Pact concept.

Companies joining the programme receive real-time interactive alerts notifying them of when it is critical to reduce energy use. PAR3 Communications has been chosen to provide the service, which allows customers to determine how, when and at what energy levels they want to be contacted.
