Criminals are increasingly using unsolicited e-mail (spam) to commit Internet fraud and identity theft, according to McAfee.com.

Law enforcement officials, federal agencies and the security experts at McAfee.com agree that e-mail spam has become a potent weapon for targeting unsuspecting consumers and stealing their money and identities. The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) describes identity theft "one of the fastest-growing crimes" in the USA (see also, Ten tips for preventing identity theft, next issue).
